about

This album all began when Forrest shared with Brian a simple guitar riff in 5/4, that he'd been plucking since 1995 and for which had no particular plans. Fascinated with the compositional possibilities, Brian wrote a B section and invited Dane to help expand its harmonic landscape. Brian surprised Forrest one day with a recorded jam session on the new tune with Alderson. Later entitled, One Thing Right, the song proved more than muse enough to inspire an album’s worth of new music.

Pat's Ride was first sequenced on a Yamaha PSR-520 back in the late 90s. When the group was looking for new material, Forrest offered up an old cassette tape recording of his homage to Pat Metheny, to which Dane and Brian added a B section and slick turnaround.

Soundside is a reference to the road where Forrest and his wife, Holly, spent their honeymoon and have returned on several occasions to watch the sunsets in The Outer Banks of North Carolina. Written as a keyboard piece initially, Brian and Dane helped Forrest adapt it to the band and added the middle chord section under the jaunty 9/8 groove.

Stoplight Tetris was written specifically for the band, starting with the main riffs and changes by Forrest and Brian later adding the melody line. This song kind of typifies what the groups sounds like at it's core, especially when seen and heard live, and captures a unique kinetic energy.

Jazz Is Dank and Yoyo are both compositions by Brian, bringing to the table a bit of slick bluesy soul and funk from his time in The Rootdowns. The latter is especially fun as it features a dear friend of the band, Jonah, on organ, someone whom would join the group officially after this album's release.
